I have been a teacher for 8 years. I have taught 5 years of 1st grade and 3 years of kindergarten in 2 different title I schools. I am especially passionate about teaching reading. Currently I am taking some time off teaching to stay home with my daughter and be more available for my sons. I watch several other children. Of course, once a teacher, always a teacher, so we do many learning activities and units.
I love to do fun activities with my children. I especially love when they are working together and moving. Now as an in-home day care provider, I love to follow the children's lead. I develop units off of things they are interested in. We also go on lots of outings to learn about the world around us. They learn so much so quickly at young ages!
I earned the Child Development Award/scholarship and several others in high school.
I have always loved children. As a child I babysat for almost everyone in the neighborhood and at church. In high school, I got involved in the Future Teacher's Association and took a Child Development Class. I actually got to do a student teaching experience in high school, which was the highlight of my day. In college, I began as an Early Childhood Major and then added Elementary Education.
I am married to a 3rd grade teacher. He is active in the NCAE and has spent much of this year fighting to save teachers. Unfortunately I am lowest on the totem pole at my school and have lost position. This made me feel as though I was being lead to stay at home with my daugher. I also watch my nephew and another little boy. I am the mother of 3 beautiful children. My husband and I decided to pursue foster care several years ago and ended up adopting the first three we fostered. Our boys are 12 and 17, and our baby is 2 years old. We are very active in our church and are so thankful for the people there who have supported us when our families have been far away.
