I have taught at the same high school for now 9 years, I started teaching there right after college and have loved it ever since.
Due to the fact that I am the Theatre Arts Director and teach our Acting, Drama, Musical Theatre, and Dance classes I have great flexibility to add "fun learning" into my classroom. The biggest pet peeve of mine is when a teacher does not find ways to connect to their students, have it be through the lesson or in a teacher to student way. So, it is my goal to make sure that I am connecting my lessons to their unique qualities, talents and likes. There are always going to be days where there are certain things you have to go over and they are not going to always thoroughly enjoy it, but if I can find a way to make it more interesting to them, I will. We get up and down a lot in my classroom, sitting around leads to minds going lazy.
I have been fortunate enough to be chosen by my peers as Teacher of the Year. This was a huge surprise to me and I could not believe that I was picked by my own peers for such a great honor. Just last year I was given the position of Academy Director for our FIne Arts and Multimedia Academy, and it has been a wonderful experience running this fine academy, I look forward to this year. My Theatre Arts program has been very lucky in it's success over the past 8 years, from winning Best in the State awards to our local theatre Awards program my students have always strived to show their dedication and love for the arts in a whole new way, and in return they have been rewarded with many awards.
I graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan in '03 with a B.A in Theatre and a minor in POlitical Science. I received my Education certificate and ESOL credentials in the state of FL.
I really enjoy creating lesson plans, I actually jump on any opportunity to write lesson plans for our School Board and also to help fellow teachers with their connections into other subject areas. I love finding how my lesson plans can be connected to any subject area, and knowing that my students are always getting a cross curricular lesson.
