TEACHING EXPERIENCE

The 2013-2014 school year will be my first! I interned at a high school where I taught 9th grade World History and dabbled in AP US Government. I taught 2 years of 8th grade US history and am about to teach my second year of 7th grade modern world history.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I think that primary and secondary sources are key to teaching history and social studies. I like for my students to be hands-on and use materials to teach themselves as much as possible. I think that history is fascinating and I hope to share my love for the subject with my students!

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I'm still new, but I'm working hard! :)

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

B.A. in History from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (2011) M.A.T in History Education from East Carolina University (2013)

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

From the very first day of Kindergarten I knew I wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. I had no idea what I wanted to teach until 8th grade when my history teacher filled an old Foosball table (minus the players) with grass, dirt, and little blue and red army men to recreate a few battles of the Civil War. No one had ever made history come alive like that and I was immediately hooked. Two years later I had the greatest history teacher of all time who solidified my love for history. He had such a passion for the subject, specifically the Civil War, that was contagious. I loved his class so much I used my precious senior elective time to take his Civil War and American West class. I want to bring history alive and share my passion for the discipline with my students the way he did for me.
