TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching middle school for eleven years. I taught in the Los Angeles Unified School District for seven years. During that time I taught sixth grade English, history, reading intervention, and Yearbook. Next, I taught seventh grade English in La Puente, CA. I now teach 8th grade reading and communication arts in Joplin, MO.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I love to use technology to engage students. Many of my units include computer-based assignments-but don't worry...there's plenty in there for you old-school types! :) I like to give clear directions, scaffolded practice, and multiple opportunities to learn and show evidence of learning. Many of my students are EL's, and many others are not at grade-level. However, that doesn't mean I skip rigor and critical thinking!

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

*National Board Certified Teacher: Early Adolescent English Language Arts-2011 *PTA Teacher of the Year Award: 2014 *Yearbook Coverage Award 2011: given for quality coverage of the year's events, including visual and written content.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

Bachelor's in Liberal Studies, emphasis Elementary Education from Biola University, 2004. Master's in Education, emphasis Curriculum and Instruction from Biola University, 2007 California Credentials: Multiple Subject (K-8), Secondary English, Secondary Social Science National Board Certified Teacher-Early Adolescent English Language Arts
