TEACHING EXPERIENCE

This is my first year of teaching! I have worked as a long-term sub teaching Art in a high school for 3 months before finding my first job. I currently work for Craig County Public Schools- a very small district in the mountains of Virginia. I am one of the two Art teachers in the entire district! I teach elementary and middle school art. I currently teach around 500 students. I also am the yearbook representative for the elementary school. I am very grateful for the amazing Art Education program at JMU that prepared me for teaching such a large range of grades. The program also gave me experience working with the elderly population.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I like to get the students as involved as possible. I prefer lessons that are student-centered and interdisciplinary. To get students invested in the projects, I try to create meaningful connections within the lesson that appeals to the student's visual culture and well as their academic life.
