I have been teaching for 17 years. Wow! Time sure flies when you're having fun! I have taught kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade, but have spent most of my teaching career in 1st grade. In 2010, I had the honor of being trained at The Ohio State University as a literacy coach. My trainers, Andrea McCarrier and Tina Henry, work along side Gay Su Pinnell to bring best practices in education into our classrooms. I train and coach teachers in my district in the comprehensive literacy framework called Literacy Collaborative. This framework is the basis for the work done by Fountas and Pinnell. I am also an educational consultant and present to K-12 teachers in everything literacy and best practice.
I truly believe that our school's best resources are teachers. The more we invest in our teachers the more successful our students will be. I believe that teachers must understand the reading and writing process in order to help children to reach their fullest potential. My teaching style is to always look at the child first and then to develop my teaching child around that child. This is difficult work, but the end result is immeasurable.
Trained at Ohio State University as a Literacy Coach under Gay Su Pinnell. Continuing my professional development at Lesley University under Irene Fountas.
