I have 30 years of teaching experience with students on IEPs in public school settings, and 4 years in private school settings as well. I work mostly in inclusive settings in general education classrooms now, but began my career in a private school, before public school placement of children with disabilities was commonplace.
I am pretty traditional, I believe in homework to practice skills introduced and refined in the school setting. I value teamwork and understand the importance of involving parents in the educational process. Working initially with multi-handicapped children taught me to focus on what is functional, when skills take longer to achieve, you need to work on behaviors and skills that will help students the most.
