My twin sister, Joy Ball and I have been teaching kindergarten and first grade, side by side in the same elementary school for 34 years. We replaced our own first grade teachers when they retired. Now we are both retired from teaching elementary school. While I continue to create resources for TPT, Joy is supervising university students majoring in elementary education.
From my long-time educator father, I learned not to be a 2 X 4 teacher--but instead to teach beyond the 2 covers of a textbook and the 4 walls of the classroom. Little hands and young minds need hands-on learning opportunities. I work to incorporate sensory learning into every lesson.
My twin sister, Joy and I have presented together at three National Core Knowledge Conferences. Each of us have received the "Golden Apple" award from our school district for exemplary teaching. Madison County Chamber of Commerce endowed us with "Teacher of the Year" awards. I have also received the honor of Teacher of the Year from southern Idaho's Sylvan Learning Center, the Post Register Newspaper and Channel 8 News for successes in working with Down Syndrome children in my classroom.
My sister, Joy Ball and I graduated Summa Cum Laude with our BS degree from BYU. We have kept current by taking classes and workshops every year.
Between the two of us, my twin sister and I have supervised over 150 "Early Field" students and student teachers in our classrooms. We have taught language arts, math, writing and music workshops in our own and surrounding school districts. In addition to the service we offer our students, Joy and I find great satisfaction in giving church and community service.
