Prior to joining the Denver (Iowa) High School faculty in 2013, Ms. White taught English Language Arts and English Second Language courses for six years at Postville High School in northeast Iowa. Ms. White also advised the yearbook at PHS and coached students as they prepared for Large Group and Individual Speech Contests. This is Ms. White's fourth year in the Denver Community School District. This year she will be a Model Classroom Teacher at the secondary level. During her years at DHS, Ms. White has taught Language 10, English 12, MS & HS Reading Intervention, English for Publications, Individual Literature, and Nonfiction Studies. She has also advised the Denver Yearbook staff all four years and been the Student Leadership Team Advisor for three years.
Jillian believes that above all, students should have the opportunity to learn in a safe, comfortable learning environment. Students should also be held to high standards and be taught HOW to learn, not just WHAT to learn. Ms. White tries to find a balance between facilitation and direct instruction as she teaches kid by kid and skill by skill.
