I have taught Second Grade for the past two years, after six years of teaching Firsties and a year in Third. Before that I worked in a Learning Center for students grades K-6. Every grade brings something special, but teaching is definitely the best job in the world! (I'm only slightly biased!)
I currently teach second grade in an inclusion classroom with a high population of English Language Learners. My teaching style reflects my students learning styles (and my own). It is very visual and multisensory, as well as routine and center based. The majority of my teaching happens in small group, and I work hard to meet students at their "just right level" without compromising high expectations. I am all for learning through discovery and allowing students time to explore materials and their own questions. Most of all, my teaching style aims to create a safe learning environment for all students to feel comfortable taking social and academic risks.
