TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I currently teach middle school Reading & Language Arts in a small town in middle Tennessee. In college, I worked at a preschool in the 15-24 month-old class, and my first teaching job after graduation was as a freshman English teacher at the local high school.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe wholeheartedly in collaborative learning. My classes are arranged in groups, and grouped or paired work is at the center of what we do. I also believe strongly in independent reading as a driving force in education, and try to encourage my students in their reading lives.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

In addition to teaching in a public school, I have also worked as a Common Core Coach for the Tennessee Department of Education. I facilitated trainings for the new Common Core State Standards for Tennessee teachers in the summer of 2013.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I attended K-12 public school in the Warren County, Tennessee, school system. I graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a degree in English and a minor in Women's Studies. I completed coursework for teaching certification from Tennessee Technological University.
