TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Teacher Early Childhood The Wheeler School, Providence, RI Fall 1983-Present • Within a team model develop and implement interesting age appropriate units of study with an emphasis on math, literacy, social studies and science, designed to meet children’s social, emotional, cognitive, creative and culturally diverse needs in preparation for Kindergarten. • Inform parents of program in all curricular areas. Conduct parent /teacher conferences three times a year, providing portfolio assessments in social, emotional, developmental and cognitive areas -keeping a time line on the progress of each child. • Design and deliver a pre-writing literacy rotation based program to meet the emergent literacy needs of students. • Exceed all NAEYC guidelines for teaching standards in order to keep students ahead of the learning curve. Give children the tools to think critically in an environment infused by usage of diverse learning styles and multiple intelligences. • Design support/assessments for students when in need of sensory integration intervention in order to succeed in the program. • Confer with consulting school psychologist, occupational therapist, speech therapist, reading specialist, and health center therapist. • Work effectively and collaboratively with a co-teacher, assistant teacher Head of the Lower School and peers within the Early Childhood grades. Child Development Independent Study Teacher September 2010 – Present The Wheeler School, Providence, RI • Designed, developed, and taught a major credit independent study for upper school students, highlighting the social, emotional and cognitive needs of children from birth to six years of age. Director of Overbrook Camp at Wheeler July 2008 - Present The Wheeler Farm, Seekonk, MA • Direct an English emersion camp for 140 foreign girls from Spanish speaking countries and Korea ages 7-14 years old, to provide them with a quintessential outdoor camp experience. • Manage a staff of 8 counselors who attend college. • Draft and manage vendor contracts. • Hold weekly meetings and conduct counselor/vendor evaluations. Handwriting Coordinator for Grades Pre-K thru Grade 2 September 2007 -Present The Wheeler School Providence, RI • Work with teachers and students in Pre-K thru Grade 2 on an as needed basis to provide handwriting support and information on best practices. Develop, design, and implement individual handwriting programs for this age range. • Report to the Reading Specialist and Head of Lower School. • Confer with parents/caregivers, classroom teachers of 4 to 8 year olds, and school specialists. Pre -K Teacher Fall 1982 - June 1983 The Kendall School, Belmont, MA • Working in collaboration with the Assistant Director. • Design, and develop age appropriate curriculum (morning and afternoon) to provide readiness skills for rising kindergarteners. • Implement assessments, conference with parents, collaborate with Nursery and Kindergarten teachers, and make referrals for educational/psychological supports as necessary.
