For beginners and young English learners, here's an active lesson based on a cartoon of The Tortoise and the Hare... but don't call it that. Just call them "rabbit" and "turtle" for beginners, okay? This is a one-page, eight-scene cartoon. It's

This is a one-page comic about Jaco Pastorius, the world's greatest bass player and a tragic figure from music history. The story is extremely condensed and I've taken many artistic liberties with it. It comes together with appropriate vocabulary

Do you remember 1998? Well, 1998 is history now, and the biggest historical event of the year was Bill Clinton's affair with Monica Lewinsky. This is a 6-panel no-words cartoon that you can use with ESL or EFL students. It also comes with a page

This is an interactive lesson that you can print and hand out to ESL students. It's about a pig named Zelly who wants to pull a diamond heist. It's way more fun than any English lesson you're going to find in a textbook. First, ask students to

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have taught: 1st-8th grade music, 1st-12th grade art, Dyslexic-specific 1st-8th grade remedial reading, 9th-10th grade English, 9th grade world history, College English composition, College ESL oral English and ESL English writing, ESL college prep reading and writing, test-specific: SAT, IELTS, TOEFL

MY TEACHING STYLE

Cartoons are the secret ingredient. I can conjure up a funny and relevant cartoon any time. I'll also force the students to open their mouths and speak their minds whenever I can. Out here in Asia, English class is all book learning, no practical action. I do the opposite. Learning a language is all about doing, and in my class, students do things with English and use their skills.
