My experience working with children in a school setting began in 2003. I worked as an employee for an afterschool program in a nearby school district. I was responsible for tutoring students ranging in age from Pre-K - Grade 8. In the following years, while attending college for Elementary Education, I was able to head one of these afterschool programs. During this time, I wrote plans, units, and created crafts for the kiddos in my care. It was a great experience! I subbed for two years and during this time, I held a couple of full-time sub positions and a co-teaching position at a nearby district as well. I also worked for a Teen Outreach program that allowed me to go into the homes of children and teens that were in need of a positive mentor. I really grew to appreciate my time doing this. It allowed me to see into the homes of some of our most needy children. To this day, I am so grateful for this experience. Soon after, I was hired as a first grade teacher and then found myself in fifth grade after two years of being in the district that hired me. I love fifth grade, but still have a great deal of material to teach in grades K-2, which is why I will be posting some material for those particular grades. :o) I am also a mom of two little girls under the age of five, and I find myself using the materials that I will be posting for them as well!
I love hands-on education. I love innovative thinking and enjoy integrating technology into my classroom. I want to do whatever I can do to have my kiddos enjoy coming to school! Learning really can be fun and it's my personal mission to show my students just that. I really enjoy speaking to other teachers and seeing what works and doesn't work for them as well. There is so much to learn and I just can't wait to see what's next!
Working on this! :o)
