TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have worked as a teacher for 9 years in Spain and 12 in the U.S., in San Diego, Washingto DC, and Philadelphia. In San Diego I was part of the High Tech High School launching team. In DC, I launched and coordinated the Wakefield Academy for Careers in Medicine at Wakefield High School in Arlington, VA. After that I got a MS in Organizational Development at American University and I started to bring into my classroom principles, practices, techniques, tools from Coaching and Process Consulting. Then I decided to step out of the classrooms and schools, and work from outside to support teachers and students by developing for them workshops and materials. In 2007 I launched my own business in Philadelphia, the Open World Language Institute, which has evolved into my last entrepreneurial project, Open Your World ( www.open-your-world.com ).

MY TEACHING STYLE

From the very beginning of my teaching career in Spain, I was heavily student-centered, project-based, and persistent in building relationships with my students as the foundation of our work together. Especially after the experiences at High Tech High San Diego and Wakefield H. S. in Arlington, VA, I truly believe in the so-called three R's of Relationships, Relevance, and Rigor, and in Small Learning Communities. In my last 6 years teaching, I started to incorporate into my practices principles, concepts, models, and tools from Coaching, Emotional Intelligence, Group Dynamics, Process Consulting, and Learning Styles from the perspective of the MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) and Multiple Intelligences. All this will also be integrated into the materials I will upload here.
