As a children's counselor working with survivors of family violence and sexual assault, I helped more than 700 families from all walks of life; suffering from different levels of stress. I have helped kids who: -- Show adjustment problems to divorce, financial hardship or grief about the loss of loved ones. -- Exhibit oppositional or defiant behaviors -- Who hurt other kids physically --Exhibit sexually inappropriate behaviors -- Who bully other kids -- Who have enuresis or encopresis related issues -- Who appear to zone out a lot or appear restless and fidgety (symptoms of traumatic stress resemble symptoms of ADD/ADHD) -- Who hurt themselves by picking skin, hitting their head, pulling hair -- Who cling to certain adults and refuse to socialize with peers
I love to simplify complex issues without minimizing them. I encourage children to speak their minds, provide creative solutions to problems and turn the learning process into a game everyone can enjoy.
I have presented or have been invited to present at the annual conferences of the following local, national and international organizations: National Child Traumatic Stress Network American Professional Society for the Abuse of Children National Child Advocacy Centers National Association of Forensic Counselors Alcohol and Drug Counselors' Board of Georgia
I'm a licensed professional counselor with a background in art and industrial design. I have obtained extensive training in the treatment of victims of violence and its perpetrators. I'm a certified sex offender treatment specialist. I'm also certified as an advanced alcohol drug counselor.
