I have been teaching high school art for almost 10 years as my main job. Other areas I teach in include: - after school children's art classes -after school middle years art classes -occasionally art workshops for daycares - classes for adult education through the City of Winnipeg Leisure guide Before entering teaching I used to work as a Early childhood educator assistant where I planned and taught children's art activities with pre-school kids, and school-age children.
My courses are based around using time for creating artwork. My lessons and projects link the assignments to other artists throughout history including Contemporary art and art that might go back to ancient cultures. I usually style projects with an introductory power point, a hands on lesson, and then art history lessons throughout while the students are working on their projects.

I completed a School of Discipleship Program through the Canadian Mennonite University, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I then completed a 4-year Bachelor of Fine Arts Honours program where I majored in Painting, and minored in Spanish, at the University of Manitoba. I took a variety of courses including sculpture, painting, drawing, and photography, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. After I finished my Fine Arts Degree, I completed a two-year Bachelor of Education from the University of Manitoba, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I also took a short course in Illustration at Central St. Martins College of Art and Design, in London, England. I have taken a variety of art education and art workshops through various centres and schools such as Martha Street Studios and Red River College in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
I love creating art and work not only as an art teacher but as a professional artist as well. I show my work at various galleries and have been involved in several painting projects at various venues such as the Children's Museum and the Winnipeg Folk Festival, in Manitoba. Illustration is a big interest for me, and occasionally I sell my work for publication. I love art, and I love seeing what students can do with the methods I teach them. Weekends find me making my own art and honing the methods I teach my students. I also sew quilts and refinish furniture in my spare time, often within the company of my Chihuahua, and my two young children. My portfolio website: www.juliadennisstudios.com
