The first 3 years of my career I worked in the field of early childhood education. I then moved into elemenetary education teaching Kindergarten and first-grade for the next 14 years. While working in the classroom, I observed the need to educate children at their deveIopmental appropriate level, it was at this time that I pursued a career in Speech Therapy. I have been working in the school setting as a Speech Teacher for the past 5 years.
It would have to be said that my teaching style is experiential and thematic. I begin each theme with an experience that we build on and refer back to. The population that I work with has limited opportunities, for instance, while teaching Summer school, I discovered that some of my students had never been to a lake...I brought the lake to them. Themes are used in order to maintain student engagement and provide a format with which to introduce vocabulary content, grammatical feature,s as well as articulation focused lessons.
I graduated with honors (Summa cum laude) in Master's of Education Other than that, I have been honored to have worked the many children that have come through my school.
I received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Azusa Pacific University, then went on to continue my education, in the field of Education where I attended California State University, Chico, receiving my CLAD credential (cross-cultural, language and academic development). I went on to receive a Master's of Education with an emphasis on reading from the University of Nevada, Reno. I received my Speech and Language education through Nevada State College.
I love my life. I have had many wonderful opportunities, one of which was the way I grew up. I grew up on a lake, as my dad was a park ranger. This lifestyle allowed me to have many animals. My favorite of which were and are my horses. I trained my first horse at the age of 13. I have always lived in the country and love the freedom of it. I am a single mom, who is currently going through "empty nest" syndrome..woohoo!! My daughter is now in college and pursuing her wonderful future. Life is definitely a rollercoaster, exciting and scarey all rolled into one.
