I have been a substitute teacher, a part time and full time paraprofessional, and am currently an elementary school teacher from New Jersey. I have coached baseball for years, and have over ten years of experience working with children at all grade levels.
At the heart of my teaching philosophy is that the classroom should be a safe place for students where they feel comfortable taking risks, asking questions, and where they can be themselves. It's not just about teaching and learning. Of course, that's the ultimate goal. However, school should be fun for students. School should be a place where children want to be. I also believe that an effective teacher fosters a personal relationship with each and every one of his or her students.
Under the pseudonym Joseph Anthony, I have self-published four books of poetry, short fiction stories, and a novel. I have had three short stories, and almost two-dozen poems selected for publication by various literary magazines in the last three years, and was fortunate to win the Yellow Chair Review's "Rock the Chair" challenge in April of 2016.
