Currently I am a Computer Science Teacher and division coordinator. I oversee the Computer Science online classes and coordinate professional development at the high school. I teach 8th grade Exploring Computer Science and work with K-8 classroom teachers and librarians to implement an equitable, cohesive Computer Science program. I have had the privilege of both ends of the spectrum. I taught in a low-socioeconomic, high diversity, large SPED and ELL population school 5th grade science and math. Then moved to I teaching all subjects to super 2nd graders.
My teaching style depends on how the students I am currently teaching learn. I believe in a personalized, intentional approach with cross curriculum integration focusing on using PBL, STEM projects and technology to enhance instruction. I enjoy dissecting curriculum and making big picture horizontal and vertical connection to help bring the content to students in authentic, practical ways. I am overjoyed at the new Computer Science curriculum because I believe this is an incredible vehicle to improve teaching and learning. It encourages hands-on, collaborative learning and will truly help students to be responsible, safe, successful and happy citizens of this world.
