After I graduated, I got a job as an Elementary ELL teacher in the Neenah Joint School District in Wisconsin. It is my second year teaching students who's first language isn't English. I travel to four elementary schools to service English language learners in grades K-5. My days consist of pushing in to the classroom for language support during content area instruction and I also pull students out to work with them one-on-one to develop language skills reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
I would say that I am well prepared to teach on the fly. Sometimes my days are very unpredictable and I have to be resourceful with my time and my lessons. I don't always have access to materials needed but I use what I have to make sure students are receiving the services they need. I try to make my lessons fun and memorable for students. Giving students the skills and techniques to problem solve in the classroom and to become independent is my goal.
