I have been teaching for 20 glorious years! I've tutored students with learning disabilities, taught special ed. classes at the junior high level, taught 5th grade for 9 years at a pilot public school based on a constructivist approach to teaching. And have spent the past 7 years working as a district level and building level instructional coach. I have given workshops within my district and around the state. The pilot school I worked at went from Academic Watch to Effective in 5 years! With grant money depleted, I have been reassigned to teach 2nd grade next year! I'm very excited for that!
My main philosophy is "learning is fun!" I use a workshop approach for everything. I want the students on task and doing the work as much of the time as possible.
I received the Teacher of the Year award for my school district in 2005. I've worked at 3 different schools that received commendations for improvement and achievement from the State of Ohio. I've been on several grant writing teams at the building level and district level and wrote one myself for reading strategy mini lesson books.
I attended Kent State University for my bachelor's degree. My master's degree in education is from Lake Erie College and I'm currently working on a second master's degree in leadership with principal license from Concordia University.
I've been married for 17 years to my wonderful husband Carlos and we have 2 children, Ayden (16) and Carly (15). Carlos is a dirt track racer so we spend our summer Friday nights at the track. I've coached basketball and volleyball and play on a women's rec team for volleyball. I love scrapbooking and reading in the sunshine on my deck!
