TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Since the fall of 2008, I’ve shared my love of reading, literature, grammar, and writing with high school students as a classroom teacher. I've had experience teaching students with various learning abilities, from high-achieving honors students to students on the verge of dropping out of school. Each and every student I've encountered has impacted me more than he or she will ever know. My credentials include a Bachelor of Science in Education (Integrated Language Arts, Grades 7-12). I have a Master's degree in School Counseling, and I am also the advisor for Youth 2 Youth, a youth-led prevention program that encourages students to make healthy choices. I enjoy proctoring the ACT, helping with Prom, and giving back to my school community as much as I can. Every day in the classroom is a blessing, and I am thankful to meet 100+ new faces each year. Teaching is in my blood and my family history. I wouldn't trade this career for anything, and I'm excited to inspire others on this platform.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I strive to create a classroom environment that is welcoming and inspiring while also rigorous and challenging. I focus on creating materials that are timely, relevant, rigorous, and creative. Much of my instruction lends itself to collaborative activities, and my resources reflect that. I am a huge fan of Project-Based Learning, collaborative group work, Socratic Seminar, Literature Circles, and Writing Workshops. In today's society kids need us more than ever, and each year I continue to strive to prepare them for their futures while creating a rapport and trust that will forever be remembered.
