TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am currently a 5th grade teacher, and I have previously taught 3rd grade. Much of my experience has been at Title 1 schools, but I have also taught summer school programs in the following: special education, gifted education, engineering and technology, and remediation. In addition, I have written curriculum for the county.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe students work best when they experience the content through hands-on activities and methods of instruction. Students need to have the opportunity to discuss their learning and understanding; I therefore utilize much collaborative and peer learning activities, as well as higher-level thinking structures through critical and creative thinking strategies. At the same time, many students need content broken into smaller, easier to grasp chunks through differentiated instruction and scaffolded activities.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Nominated for my county's First Year Teacher of the Year award.
