TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I fell into teaching while living overseas. Who knew schools would knock on your door inquiring about your degree and availability? Once in the classroom I was hooked. What is not to love about teaching English to ELLs? I taught overseas for 9 years and then returned to the states to teach in TX, NC, and FL. Unfortunately, I don't work with ELLs anymore but I still teach middle school which is a great consolation prize.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Problem-based learning sums up my teaching style. I strive to incorporate cooperative learning through problem solving. The kids respond well to real-life situations even if they are historical problems. English can be a drag to many students but by tossing in a problem to solve--boom--they are thinking and using English. The partner work and team work develops a variety of skills: negotiation, persuasion, conversation, etc
