I have been an elementary education teacher for over 20 years. I have taught K, 1,3 and 5. Currently I am teaching 1st grade and love it! I have a masters in reading and an attached degree that I am about to complete for Gifted Endorsement.
My classroom is very diversified as are my students. I have an entirely differently set of lesson plans for my gifted students which is time consuming but rewarding. I believe children learn best from hands on experience rather than a multitude of worksheets, one after another. I encourage my little ones to be create in order to show me what they learn and am a big believer in teacher students to apply what they have learned rather than to memorize, regurgitate information on a test and forget it! I love what I do!
Nominated as my school's Teacher of the Year/Past student whom I had in 5th grade is studying to be a history teacher because he says I created such a wonderful learning experience when I had him in class by making history a story rather than a bunch of facts to be memorized....it was one of my favorite moments as a teacher.
