I have been teaching in grades K to 2 for over 30 years. I have worked extensively with EEL and At Risk students. I have taught in three different states. I taught ESL (grades 1-6) in South America. I always have enjoyed the challenge of teaching a diverse student population. I have worked in self contained and team teaching situations. The title "Teacher Next Door" came from one of my former team partners who always said one of the things she liked about teaching was the collaboration and always said, "You are only as good as the teacher next door."
I believe in creating a classroom environment in which the students feel challenged, supported, and encouraged to reach their fullest potential. I want my students to be independent and self motivated to learn. I like the students to be hands on in their learning and working in cooperation with one another. I like activities that encourage the students to develop a love of learning and work toward becoming life long learners.
I was Teacher of the Year for my school. My class won the Northern Nevada Science Fair for 4 different years (placing second twice and third twice in the Primary Division). I have been a mentor teacher for new teachers and a mentor for ESL and science.
I have a B.S. from the University of California, Davis in Early Childhood Development. I received my teaching certificate from the state of California in Bilingual Education with an emphasis in Spanish. I have a M.A. in Reading Improvement from University of California, Northridge.
