TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Currently, I am in my seventh year of teaching. For the past six years, I have taught fifth graders in the state of Georgia. While I have taught all subject areas, my passion and love is teaching math. Reading would be a close second. This year, I am a Title 1 teacher at my school and serve struggling math and reading students in grades 3 thru 5.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I feel that students learn best when they are engaged and understand the importance of learning that subject matter--both in and outside of my classroom. I also believe firmly that children must build strong, foundational skills for reading and math in the elementary grades. Therefore, in my math instruction, my focus is on conceptual understanding. Nearly all of the problems that I use with my students are presented in a real-world context. Students are required to model and explain their answers in addition to solving using standard algorithms/symbolic means.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

Hold a BS.Ed from the University of Georgia and graduated with honors. Additionally, I earned a Math Endorsement from UGA. Go Dawgs! I also hold a MS.Ed from Walden University in the area of Elementary Reading and Math.

I am married to my best friend, who is also a math teacher, and we live happily with our two furry children. We have an adorable baby boy who is our world!
