I am currently a coach to master teachers with the Excellence in Teaching Initiative for my district. I am also on a RCD curriculum writing team. I have been teaching for 18 years, with most of my experience at the 5th and 6th grade levels. I am GATE certified and have taught in a GATE cluster classroom. In addition to teaching, I have been a BTSA Support Provider to new teachers, teach at district professional development sessions, and have been heavily involved in district and county-wide School to Career grant programs. I am on my district's Common Core Teacher Committee. I have directed drama club and choir, and have facilitated Future Problem Solvers.
I love a literature rich classroom, with modified Literature Circles, which I call Book Clubs. My classes read 4-5 novels together throughout the year. I balance my teaching style between problem-based learning and project-based learning, encouraging both critical and creative thinking. Although only a portion of my classroom is identified as GATE, I always use GATE teaching strategies for all students.

I hold a BS In Psychology from Liberty University, with an AA in Bible. I did my post-graduate work at California State University San Bernardino where I received my CLAD teaching credential.
I am a second-career teacher, having worked in business for 18 years prior to teaching. I am married with three children, and have owned a math tutoring business and a travel agency.
