Student engagement and learning, while maintaining high academic standards, is my number one goal. I use a daily teaching framework which incorporates Word Study, Interactive Read Aloud, Reading Minilesson/Writing Minilesson, and Independent Reading/Writing time. I also try to incorporate one-one-one student conferences or small group instruction such as literature circles daily. With limited time in our daily literacy block, I have found alternating between reading units and writing units to be a great balance and way to manage it all.
Having various blog posts from my blog, Middle School Teacher to Literacy Coach, now The Literacy Effect, be featured in "The Big Fresh," Lesley University's, "The Mailbox," the TpT blog, and various blogs from popular magazines.

I live in Wisconsin with my husband, two sons, dog, and cat. My favorite things include a hot cup of coffee, decluttering/organizing anything I can get my hands on, a sweaty workout or run, and snuggles from my boys (this includes the dog and cat along with the humans).
