I have been teaching for 16 years. I have served as a Writing Workshop coach for three years, and an Intervention (RTI) Coordinator for one. I have consulted with UCLA in the areas of writing workshop and literacy, and continue to do so on my own (with Powerful Choices Educational Consulting). I have taught middle schoolers during a two-week long writing camp during the summer, and have taught Reading Methods to pre-service teachers at the university level.
I subscribe to a constructivist philosophy with a Freirian outlook. I believe that teachers should be passionate mentor-experts, but just as much, display a commitment to hands-on learning and allowing children to lead the way.
