I'm currently enjoying my 17th year in the classroom. My students are engaging, bright, and fun, and they help to keep me young.
I can't stand to lecture -- I can't help but think that my students are daydreaming, and their minds are miles away. A perfect lesson for me is one in which all of the students are engaged, thinking, and expressing their thoughts in a multitude of ways. My classroom is only quiet on test days, if I can help it.
I spent one summer at Amherst studying Law, Morality, and Contemporary Jurisprudence with Professor Austin Sarat as part of a National Endowment of the Humanities grant. I recently spoke at the National Council of the Social Studies conference in Atlanta, but my greatest honor has been a standing ovation my students gave me once -- when I was handing out final exams!!
