TEACHING EXPERIENCE

In my thirty-plus years of teaching I have taught kindergarten, first, second, third, and fourth grades. I also work with middle school and high school students (and their families) as a Juvenile Firesetter Interventionist with my local fire department. I have put on a number of teacher workshops dealing with such topics as Integrating Technology into the Classroom, Creating a Leveled Bookroom, Balanced Literacy, Creating a Classroom Website, and more.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I love teaching and working with my students. My teaching style includes a variety of approaches ... workshop model, hands-on learning, whole group, small group, and individual conferences. My students are actively engaged in their learning, setting goals, and monitoring their progress. Each child is unique with their own strengths and challenges. By creating a positive, safe, and loving environment, they are able to become the best learners they can be!

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I have received a variety of grants from the North Thurston Education Foundation, Thurston County Retired Teachers, the Multicultural Advisory Commission, and Target. I was one of the first thirty primary teachers in the state to receive the Gates' Technology Grant. I also received the Cause for Applause Award (parent nominated) and was the 2014 Teacher of the Year for my school.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

In 1990 I earned my Masters' Degree and in 2010 my National Board Certification.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I am a wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, and recently a published author. You may purchase my books at Amazon.com and other independently owned bookstores. Additional ideas and resources that go with my books can be found on my website at kathleenlstone.com.
