Jill Bauer and Kathy Grochowalski are veteran teachers, each with over 30 years of experience in education. They have developed a strategy that attaches information to memory through the connection of hand-drawn pictures. Memory Connections is highly engaging and increases the understanding of content for all students.
Because this strategy works with students of all levels and abilities, Kathy and Jill were often being asked by students from other classes to help them learn vocabulary terms. Memory Connection strategies: Wakes up brain cells, Increases retention of words and their concepts, Emphasizes details, and is Especially effective for visual learners. This technique helps students "see" the meaning of the vocabulary word which conveys much more information than a key word of sentence. Teachers use this as a great instructional tool to introduce vocabulary, review terms and concepts, and to prepare for state standardized tests.
Jill and Kathy have been the receipients of the Crawford County BEST Awards for multiple years. Kathy was also a finalist for the Freida J. Riley Award in 2007. Jill and Kathy are currently presenting workshops across the state of Ohio.
