I teach 4th - 8th grade Reading & Composition. My products are created for a small classroom setting (we rarely have more than 12 students per grade); however, they can be updated for any classroom use. I have a degree in English Education from John Brown University. I am passionate about reading and writing, and I love to share my passion with my students in the classroom as well as collaborate ideas with my colleagues near and far.
Collaborative learning is a must in the ELA classroom. When students are engaged in conversation with one another about their reading, they get excited about what they can discover. When they are encouraging each other and giving feedback and critique on their writing, they have the opportunity to get passionate about their voice. I do direct instruction, but only what is needed. My instruction also comes in the form of written feedback, which I take care to construct. I love my students and the awesome writers they are becoming!
I don't like to brag, but I once received a most improved award in Kindergarten for my counting skills.
My early education was spent at a small Christian private school, where my love for education and literacy began. My public high school education inspired me to pursue a teaching career in Language Arts. I believe both of these experiences were essential in my journey to where I am today.
I love to get lost in the oceans of a good book, and even more so love to wrap others in the tentacles of my own writing. I enjoy the diagramming of a good sentence, complete with devilish prepositional phrases and not-so-relative clauses. You know - English Teacher stuff.
