As a beginning level social worker, I am proud to say I have worked in the medical field closely with social workers. I was a Certified Nurse’s Assistant for seven years and during that time I worked closely with paraplegics and quadriplegics. I completed a macro level internship at Kent County Community Action where I was able to work individually with clients and learn about policies and procedures and see how micro and macro policies fit together. As a graduate student I was placed at Allendale Elementary School. I got to work hands-on with children in grades K-3 and learn how a school social worker can make an impact. I want to obtain full time employment within this field because I love working with children and within the school environment.

Hi, my name is Katie Gardner and I am from Needles, California. (Yes, like Snoopy’s cousin Spike for all you Peanuts fans). I currently reside in Wyoming, Michigan with my husband and daughter. I have my Limited Licensed Bachelor of Social Work Degree (LLBSW) and am completing my Master’s of Social Work Degree (MSW). I graduated in April 2019 and am working towards full licensure now that I have completed my studies. I am flexible and down to earth, which comes in handy when having a 2-year-old child. I love spending time with my daughter and watching her grow. We have taken her to advocacy walks, such as the “walk for warmth” and “walk for Claire,” both of which advocate for those in need. I enjoy giving a voice to those who do not have one, and I love teaching my daughter to stand up for what she believes in.
