I have been teaching for seven years now and I love every minute of it! I taught fourth grade in a Title I school for one year in Illinois and then we moved to Tennessee where I spent four years teaching first grade in a Title I school. Last year I was the Title I reading interventionalist and this upcoming year I will be the Special Education resource teacher for K-2. Our school district recently adopted the Common Core State Standards and I am working towards creating a set for every first grade common core standard.
I use many different teaching strategies and styles within my classroom - whatever will help my students stay motivated and be excited to learn! I love the use of small groups and centers and I am a firm believer in the effectiveness of cooperative learning. I am definitely always looking for new ideas and inspirations to incorporate within my room!
I was the first grade team leader for three years and I have also won the Green Apple Teaching Award twice.
I went to Illinois State University where I started my bachelors in Deaf Education, but then switched to elementary education. I also have my masters in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on literacy from Austin Peay University.
I believe that my students will meet whatever expectations I set for them - and I am continuously amazed every year at what my students are capable of! I love instilling a curiosity for learning within every student that walks into my classroom and I hope to help each student realize and reach their potential. I hope that the activities that I create can help you do the same for your students.
