I have been teaching for 11 years now. I have spent the first 6 years of my career teaching Special Education (Resource Room) Kindergarten - 3rd grade. I took a break from Special Ed for a few years while I was getting my Master's degree and taught 1st grade for three years. Now I have returned to my passion and am teaching Kindergarten through 6th grade Resource Room students. Before teaching, I worked in various child care settings with ages 6wks to 12 years old. In all of these settings I have had to find things to fit what I was teaching the students; be it through art projects and sensory/motor work, or formal academic work.
I like everything to be cute and not visually overwhelming. Because I have taught younger kids most of my career, I focus a lot of my energy on making content accessible to my students through visual, auditory, tactile, or physical movement. I want them to remember what I am teaching them and more importantly why they need to know it. I like to connect my standards through various themes in order to provide my students with background knowledge as well as motivating interest and to effectively use my time.
