8 years working as a 1:1 support for ASD kiddos. Have worked across all key stages, currently rocking out in Key Stage 2, mainstream! For 8 years I have worked in Special Education Needs. I have worked across all Year Groups from Nursery (3 yrs) up to Year 13 (18 yrs). I have always worked in a 1:1 role, predominently with students who have Autism and related ASD behaviours. I have also supported students with a wide range of additional needs including those with Downs Syndrome, ADHD, GDD, hearing impairment, speech and language issues, selective mutism and many others. Alongside my SEN work I have worked extensively with children who have behavioural issues. For some these were related to their learning disabilities, some were standalone. I have extensive experience of dealing with aggresion and violent behaviours and and passionate about teaching these children alternative behaviours. I have also gained valuable experience in pastoral care during these years. It is so important that when dealing with the students I support you see the whole child. They often have extremely challenging lives and you cannot educate the brain before helping to heal the child.
"If she were anymore laid back she'd be horizontal." Because most of my work is with students with Autism I tend to be very calm, relaxed and, lets say, a little quirky. It's not unusual to find me having a lay down on the library floor when were having a tough day, or leading a conga line through the lunch hall. All of my quirky behaviour is modelling. It is for a reason, I am teaching my kids the way that they learn. Judge me, I don't care. If they're getting what I'm teaching, that's all that matters!

I am currently three months away from completing my Bachelors degree. It's taken me 10 years because life got in the way.
