TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been out teaching in the classroom in a multi age, multi ability setting in remote South Australia. In a particularly diverse room last year (Kindergarten to Year 10), it occurred to me that teaching everything separately was simply not possible. So, using an overarching thematic, I began created term long units of study that were fully integrated. That way, all students had the same theme and the same tasks. Just - the expectations for each grade were different, and

MY TEACHING STYLE

How did I come up with the themes? Well - at the end of the previous year, I surveyed the students and had them tell me things they were interested in (for example: war history, dinosaurs, fashion designing etc). All themes were those identified from students, not directed by me. This is the ultimate in student centred learning.
