I have been teaching English Language Learners at the primary grade levels for 14 years. I have worked in several districts, including North Carolina, Georgia and Boston, MA. I work mostly with Spanish and Portuguese speaking students. I've been a classroom SEI teacher as well as a pull-out ELL teacher.
Since I work mainly with Kindergarten students, I try to make my lessons hands on and active. We sing songs, we play games and I use lots of visuals. I also try to make each lesson relevant and familiar so each student can participate regardless of their level of English.
I received the Sontag Award for Urban Education while working in Boston.
I graduated from Guilford College in Greensboro, NC with a BA in Spanish and a BA in Elementary Education. I received my Masters in Education from UMASS Boston with a focus on Applied Linguistics
