This is my fifth year as an English Language Arts teacher. I have taught in both an inner city class room as well as a suburban classroom, where I currently am today. I have had the privilege to teach all levels as well as all grades. Currently I teacher 9th grade, 10th grade, and Reading Intervention.
I try to get to know my students beginning the first day of school. I want to know their likes/dislikes, abilities in the classroom, as well as what they desire to learn while in my English class. Knowing this, I try to tailor my teaching to best benefit every child in my room. Though differentiating to every single child's need is quite a task, I choose to teach to the individual student rather than to the class as a whole.
I was nominated for teacher of the year at my high school in 2013. I have been accepted to the Stokely Writing Conference at the University of Tennessee for the past three years. I have been awarded with an additional certification for teaching reading.
I attended the University of Tennessee for both my Bachelor's and Master's degrees. I received my Bachelor's degree in English with a concentration in literature in 2011, and I received my Master's Degree of Secondary Education in 2012.
