TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Middle school teacher with high school ambitions: I've provided a stable factor in a chaotic building for twelve years. Served as Curriculum Leader for five. Continue to support all teachers in the building with my resources, time, and research abilities.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Expressive, engaging: want every student to feel welcome in my classroom. Watching and helping students grow from the painful middle school years to adulthood is a privilege. I don't believe in the word 'accountability' but do believe in creativity. Every one of us has a story to tell. Most important of all: every student is someone's baby. Never lose sight of that.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

National Board Certified Teacher, certified in ELA and Visual Arts, highly qualified in ELA, Social Studies. National Writing Project Fellow through the Puget Sound Writing Project. Currently creating the curriculum (from scratch!) and teaching the Computer Technology Essentials designed to help low-income students gain the viable access to the creativity and power of the digital world.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

Undergraduate degree in 1986 Bachelors of Fine Arts from the University of Delaware: Masters of Education from Eastern Washington University and Kent School District Cohort, 2006.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Mother of two wonderful sons who somehow managed to grow up to be funny and intelligent young men. Married twenty-five years to a man who asked me after five days. I write and sketch. And try to get a German Shepherd to behave. Only successful at two of those.
