I have been an elementary school teacher for 14 years; 12 of them have been in Michigan, and two of them in Indiana. I most recently taught 3rd grade, but have spent the bulk of my teaching career in 5th and 6th grade.
I firmly believe that students need to learn in an environment governed by love and respect, where they feel comfortable taking risks and making mistakes. I work to build a growth mindset in my students throughout the year. I love to use technology in my classroom, but I think there needs to be a balance between the tech and face to face, and that students need ample time to talk to one another and practice their communication skills. I also employ flexible seating, so students have freedom of movement around the classroom and can station themselves where they learn best.
