I am currently a student teacher in a wonderful 1st grade classroom, studying at Bowling Green State University. My experience has primarily been in preschool and first grade, as well as observations and tutoring in kindergarten.
Creativity and positivity are very important to me. I feel as though children should be able to express themselves comfortably in learning, as educational content is made relatable and accessable for all students. My classroom will be safe and controlled, but in a way that allows children to feel at hom. I hope to make children free to enhance their own social and practical life skills. Most of all, positivity and variety with instruction should make learning fun.

I began my college career at The Ohio State University. I was there originally pursuing either communications, spanish, or broadcast journalism, depending on the time of that year. Finally, I had made up my mind to become an elementary school teacher. This decision brought me closer to home again, joining the well-known early childhood education program at BGSU. One summer, I had the mind-opening opportunity to take a music education course at Eastern Michigan University as well. This course was taught by a passionate musician and educator who did well to broaden my perspective of life in teaching. Looking back at my history in education, I feel as though I am equipped with great advice and knowledge from a variety of views points.
Though I am student teaching in NW Ohio, I do not feel limited to finding a job in this same area. I can see myself moving back to Columbus, where I enjoyed my first year of college and have family to join. Ideally, it would be nice to live somewhere new and away from home, but not too far to come home to see my family regularly. Currently, I am applying to the BGSU Graduate Reading Program. I am doing this in hopes of making myself the best educator I can be, while keeping my focus in preschool thorugh 3rd grade. Completing a master's degree in reading will open many more opportunities for me in a subject area that has come more naturally to me. Reading is an essential piece of early childhood, giving me a greater cause to pursue the ability to facilitate this type of learning.
