I have been teaching fourth-grade mathematics in Massachusetts for 18 years.
I like to mix the old with the new. Children need to discover and experience mathematics first-hand. However, there is also a time and place for traditional drill-and-skill traditional mathematics.
While I can't claim any individual honors or awards, the students in my fourth-grade math classes ranked 12th out of 351 cities and towns in Massachusetts on statewide testing.
