I have taught third grade in two different counties. Both of my experiences are in very low-income schools with very diverse populations.
I am a Whole Brain Teacher, although I am not yet Whole Brain Certified. I love to incorporate interactive strategies to engage students in my instruction. I consider my teaching as problem-based and inquiry-oriented. I implement activities that encourage problem-solving, perseverence, and cooperation.
I was chosen as a Key Beginning Teacher for my county. I was also the Beginning Teacher of the Year for my school in my second year teaching.
I attended East Carolina University for my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and my Master's degree in Reading Education. I also participated in the Launch Program through East Carolina University which specialized in preparing teachers to teach math successfully.
I work with a large number of students who are learning English as a second language, and I consider one of my strengths to be helping these learners become proficient in English and in grade-level content. I am bilingual and speak Spanish as well as English.
