This is my third year of teaching in Oakland, California. My school is 98% free or reduced lunch, with the majority of students being Latino and African American. 3/4 of my class are English Language Learners, so much of my classroom focus revolves around vocabulary development, visual cues, and sentence frames. I am GLAD trained, love the responsive classroom, and am learning so much every day from my colleagues and my students.
I am high-energy and aim to be authentic. I try to relate to my students on a deep level and be very explicit about my own mistakes and triumphs so they feel comfortable to share theirs. I am big on relationships, and I try to make everything into a song or game. When it's time to be serious, though, it's time to be serious.

I received my Bachelor of Science in Child Development from Cal Poly State University, San Luis Obispo. I then went straight to get my combined Master's and Credential in Education from UC Berkeley's Developmental Teaching Education Program.
I'm a first grade teacher in a low-income area in Oakland, California. I love teaching reading and writing most of all and am impressed by my students' brilliance daily. My life is filled with family, friends, word games, books, my iphone, and, of course, teaching.
