Hi! I have been teaching for 22 years across all grades in elementary school, as well as high school drama and theatre arts. I have also been an itinerant teacher for gifted education and spent some time as a substitute in the early days of my career. Further I have been a guest lecturer at the university level and have done several guest speaking engagements. Drama and the arts are my second love behind my students and my home life.
I teacher through a student centered approach which focuses on 'kid over curriculum' where I ensure I know the student and family, the things they want and need to learn, and I work to adapt the curriculum to see them succeed and build self esteem. Equally I focus on using drama in education and improvisation skills to enhance learning and make my classroom environment invigorating and fun
I have won three teaching awards, two on the local level as 'teacher of the year' in my district and board, and one on the national level where in 2014 I received the 'Prime Minister's Award' as one of the top 20 teachers in Canada.
I attended Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada where I received my first degree in Education with a primary/elementary concentration. Next, I graduated from the University of Central England, Birmingham, with a post graduate diploma in Drama in Education with a minor in art. Finally, I again attended memorial to complete my Masters Degree in Leadership in Education in 2005.
I was born and raised in Kilbride, Nl. I have the lovely lori and our gorgeous doodle 'D' at home and I play all kinds of sports and games. I am big on traveling and spending time with family and friends. I love my job and feel rewarded every day that I get to spend in the classroom and influencing lives for the better. Life is great!
