I am currently teaching 1st grade and have over 17 years experience working in Pre-K and elementary school settings. Twelve of those were with kindergarteners. I have also worked with home bound students and spent time tutoring foreign exchange students during the summer.
I enjoy working with thematic units and feel students benefit greatly when a teacher ties subjects and standards into a theme. Some of my favorites are Eric Carle, American symbols, and holidays. I feel thematic units make learning much more interesting and in some cases, reach students who may be struggling in a specific area.
